The third and, for now, final big knight I’ve painted, this one is based on the named character variant with unique rules. I adopted the official color scheme for this one, painting it all in silver, and used several of the wolf head and broken chain decals. I made some changes and additions of my own, however, and added a canine head and longer claws that I picked up from a third party vendor. The head was actually a significant sculpting project on my part, as I started with a slender anubis/jackal head and reworked it into a stouter lupine one.
I also decided to add heavier wear and weathering to this one, and I feel like I had mixed results. The final result looks pretty good, but the dirt and grime layers are directly competing with the incredibly sparkly silver paint I used for the carapace, and there’s not really any way to compromise on those two directions. You can see that I used slightly different patterns and methods on a few different parts, such as the shin armor vs the shoulders and back, but in the end I mostly feel like I got it good enough. I’ll be continuing to re-evaluate how to do this as I work on more models in the future.
I don’t mean to sound too ambivalent; I think that this model turned out well and I learned a lot. I was just doing a lot of different things at once in this project and didn’t end up at a spot where they could all be at 100% at the same time.
